His ever-beaming smile would exude optimism. Prophet Muhammad was a beacon of hope for those around him. Many seem to be fixated on his sayings about the Day of Judgement and Hellfire, while conveniently ignoring his vocal messages of glad tidings and productive work.Īfter all, the mission of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was described by God as follows, “O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness (Shahid) and a bringer of good tidings (Basheer) and a warner (Nazeer). And one who invites to Allah (Daee) , by His permission, and an illuminating lamp (Sirajan Munira)”.

I would like to thank our Grassroots Leaders and both the Digital and CDC Ambassadors for coming together to reach out to our coffeeshop stallholders and merchants for this meaningful initiative. Those who don’t know him and haven’t studied his life, often think of Prophet Muhammad’s teachings to be full of negative or harsh messages. He welcomes this initiative and is open to try it out as it supports the heartland businesses and Singaporeans. They are supportive of this initiative as it increases the probability of having new customers patronising heartland businesses.Īnother merchant, Mr Peter Eng, has been operating Hing Lim Choon Medical Hall (#01-297) for more than 30 years now. Her son, Mr Jovent Chua, is assisting with the business and will soon take over the business. Ms Yoke Loo, founder of Yoke Loo Salon (#01-299), has been running her business in the heartland for more than 30 years. I am heartened to learn that our coffeeshop stallholders and merchants are supportive towards this initiative. It is to thank Singaporeans for the solidarity during the Covid-19 pandemic as well as to support heartland businesses. These digital CDC vouchers can be redeemed at hawker centres and at participating neighbourhood merchants. I spent a rewarding afternoon last Friday, connecting with coffeeshop stallholders and merchants at Bukit Batok East Ave 4 to get them come onboard the CDC Vouchers Scheme.Īnnounced during Budget 2021, about 1.3 million Singaporean households will be receiving their CDC vouchers digitally. It was an engaging session and I enjoyed learning insights from her! We also spoke about the work of Sunlight AfA in tackling online harms in Singapore. I also shared with her some of my learning points from the recent meeting of the International Grand Committee on Disinformation (IGC5), particularly on keeping children safe while they use online and social media. As parents, it is important that we spend time with our children and provide the guidance for them to have meaningful screen time activity.

We spoke about the findings and exchanged views on screen time for young children which needs to be moderated to ensure that it does not lead to adverse effects on the child’s development. She was keen to hear about the GUSTO (Growing Up in Singapore Towards Healthy Outcomes) study. In particular, we agreed that more can be done for women’s health and the importance of encouraging women to go for health screening like Pap smear test and breast cancer screening. We have a common interest to enhance support for vulnerable women and their families. We exchanged ideas and discussed various matters including online harms, supporting child and maternal wellness, and women’s development. I had a good exchange of views and experiences with YB Nurul Izzah Anwar, Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh, Penang, Malaysia, during her recent visit to Singapore under the S R Nathan Fellowship.
